Spec:
Case: Coolermaster HAF XM
PSU: Coolermaster 1000w silent pro
SSD: sandisk 120gb
Windows 7
HD: 1TB Seagate barracuda 7200
Motherboard: Intel DX79SI
CPU: Intel i73930k
GPU: Isus gtx680 2gb
ram: 4 x 8gb ddr3 1600 MHz

On windows installation, no hardware is listed and windows cannot see my hard drives, although BIOs can see only 1TB drive but not see the SSD in the front bay.
Start up repair diagnosis listed Issues:
it says a root cause is preventing system from starting
disk failure diagnosis - was successful
it says the root cause is a patch preventing the system from starting (like a cabbage patch?)
Anyway all these tests were successful apart from the "patch" mentioned above.
So windows is requesting device drivers to be loaded, but I don't know which ones or what to do. There are no disks listed.
I connected up the hard disk to the SATA connections on the motherboard and on the BIOs I configured it as ASCI
The CPY has 2 fan coolers and seem to be working and I saw the temperature on the Bios was 52c which is apparently inside the 68c limit
The bios lists the 4 x8gb dims as installed
BIOs version is SIX7910J. 86A.0281.2011.1019.1612
Some details out of the bios:
Main:
active processor cores: ALL
Hyperthreading is enabled
Configuration on board devices refers to USB and it advises USB legacy and USB 3.0 controller
On SATA drives on chipset SATA mode its configured as AHCI
Port 0 shows the 1TB hard drive
port 1 shows the optical drive

I saw some advice that windows might need more time to read the hard drive so I adjusted the delay from 0 to 30 seconds but there is no difference in boot up.

I don't know what chassis intrusion is but assume its not affecting the failure to boot up

PCI add in slots lists the use of slot 6 with the GP at 2.5 gts, but its not in slot 1

I have not dismanteled the CPU, but as the primary hardware matters are booting up to windows, I assume its ok.....

In summary, I think the hardware is OK as I am getting to the initial windows screen, but it cannot find the hardware in windows and is advising to load device drives as there are no drives shown in the available hardware.

Can anyone please advise how to resolve this issue?

thanks

Philip

Solution
Firstly, you want to disconnect you HDD so that you have only your SSD connected while installing windows.

Now if you still have the problem that BIOS recognises the SSD but Windows doesn't, try a different SATA port.

If that fails to resolve the issue try diskpart.
On the windows setup screen, press shift+f10 to bring up a cmd prompt. Type in "diskpart", enter. type "list disk", enter. You should see your SSD listed with a number. Type "select disk *" where * is the number for you SSD. Type "clean", enter.

Hopefully that will get you sorted.

edit: sorry this is brief, I'm at work with little time. Ask if anything is unclear

Dear Confuciused
Thanks for your advice- it worked!

I discovered that even bios could not see the SSD because I mistook the power connection for another part (one of the many fans) so I fixed up the SSD power and then disconnected everything else. I ran the bios and saw the SSD for the first time. Then I realized I still needed the optical drive, so I had SSD on SATA 0 and I put the optical drive on SATA 6. I booted up and it went cleanly to Windows installation and it took about 15 minutes to install.

So now I can do the clean up and put back the HDD on a later SATA port. Thanks very much for the advice.

best

Philip

Dear All
The history of my machine is shown in earlier threads and the system is up and running with windows 7 installed and operational. However, if I leave the PC alone, it will crash, system power is still running but the screen has completely gone dead and nothing I can do to make the screen come back to life and I have to switch the power off and reboot. Windows resumes and goes back to normal start screen and works until I leave the machine and then the same thing happens again. How do I identify and fix this glitch please. I have windows 7 completely reinstalled and updated with all service packs/fixes etc. I believe that the drivers for all the devices are OK. Any suggestions on the approach, what to check, would be appreciated.

Have you checked that your mouse/keyboard are set to allow them to wake the PC?

ie: Control panel > Hardware and sound > Mouse > Hardware > properties > Power management > 'Allow this device to wake the computer' checked.

Edit: Also try set the power management settings for computer sleep and when to turn the screen off to never and see if that helps

Dear Confucioused

You were spot on with the solution. My settings were to go to sleep after half an hour, so I changed it to never and for the first time, my monster machine stayed on all night no problems. So I am very pleased that finally all the gltches that I have faced are now all fixed, thanks to your advice over the past few weeks. Thanks very much for your help.

best regards

Philip

You are welcome Philip, glad that i could help.

I will note though that it appears that the problem is waking from sleep. While disabling the sleep function gets around the problem, it's not really a direct solution to the issue.

If you do not feel the need to ever put the computer to sleep then this will suffice. However if in the future you wish to utilise the sleep function then I suggest you begin a new thread directed at that issue and I'm sure the community will be able to help you.

Regards,
Mark
