I have an old PC and it has winXP installed. I was wondering if i can install win7 32bit and have it running smoothly. It will be used for browsing the web, paint and word. Very simple and ordinary tasks. Since i already have windows 7, i want to use that and i dont want to purchase a new OS.

Specs-
CPU - AMD Athlon 64 3400+ 2.2Ghz Single-Core
GPU - ATI Integrated
RAM - 1GB DDR1
HDD - 500GB

Win7 x86 (32-bit) will work fine, if not a bit sluggish due to only 1GB ram.
Video drivers @ amd.com
Most motherboard drivers shold get installe by Win7 / Windows Update, if not check manufacturer support page. If they don't have it, use the information from the XP drivers to google search for drivers direct from component manufacturer.

Hi timarp000....
As per the task mentioned by you, 32- bit windows will work smoothly on your old PC
Even I must say 32 bit is more optimal as it allows various S/W's that are not supported by others.
So go for it.....:)

The main issue is the drivers... If i reinstall windows all the drivers will be wiped and i dont have the driver disk...
