I have a Asus VG248QE 24 inches 144Hz. I really like this monitor, it is great for gaming.
Price: 290 USD - http://www.amazon.com/VG248QE-24-Inch-Screen-LED-lit-Mo...
You don't get 3D glases with it, so you have to buy them seperatly - but I have no idea which 3D glases are good or bad.
So I would guess arount 350 USD in total.

I know this has not been released in us yet, but ben-q xl2411t has been getting great reviews, is 144hz 1ms screen and in comparisons has better quality picture, whilst asus has less overdrive ghosting.
I sorted inverse ghost by turning ama to high rather than premium.
Worth seeing if you get one, i am very happy with it.

Look at the Samsung 700, 750 and 950 monitors. As you mentioned, you want to play games as well as movies. The above monitors mentioned are 3D Vision monitors and will not work well with your 7970. Neither would work at all with the 7970 or DVD player, as neither have built in emitters and require 3D Vision 2 to use the kit. This effectively removes the HDMI option from the monitors.

Though I'd recommend selling the 7970 and getting a 670 or 680, then go with the above two recommendations.
