Just wanted to know if it's worth the upgrade from a phenom 840 3.2ghz.
I'm pretty much about to upgrade my whole system except for the ram. If you need any other info, I'm getting a hd 7950 graphics card, and my current card is a gtx 460
The FX6300 is a great CPU, especially at it's price.
In normal usage, it fills the void between the Intel I3 and I5's. However, in multi-threaded applications or heavy multi-tasking it can compete with the I5's quite well.
The FX6300 is a great CPU for the price. There are more powerful CPUs out there, but it will be a good upgrade from what you have now. It will perform well in games, and will give you a good window of time before you'll need to upgrade again. Plus, if you multi-task much at all it will be a great solution for you, as it can run a lot of applications simultaneously, and it will run them very quickly.
Hope you enjoy it
If you think my advice is most helpful please select it as the solution
Make sure your motherboard supports that cpu first, you will need a 9 series chipset, some older 8 series chipsets boards received a bios updated to accept them cpu's too.

Also, the FX6300 overclocks like a champ and can easily hit 5 Ghz on air.
basicly in gaming an i3 is a bit better than fx 6300 in STOCK speeds. note than it cannor reach 5 ghz even watercooled and stop writting bullshit if you dont realy know

Can't wait untill another guy from 5-10 years into the future to come tell you that you are wrong and that a i15 is better for gaming...
