Ok, so my build will be

Mobo: ASRock Z77 Extreme4-M
Core: i5 3570k (CM Hyper 212 EVO cooled)
RAM: 8gb(2*4gb) Corsair Vengeance low profile Arctic White 1.35V

GPU:???

So I've heard people say different things, some say go with the 7870 XT, some say go with the 7950, I've heard people say you can OC the XT to match or even beat the 7950. Would I be being silly to go with the XT for the sake of $35? They're close enough in price that I don't mind at all to go for the 7950 if it means tangible benefits.

the 7950 HERE

and the 7870 XT HEREl

So yeah, help a guy out. Tell me what you think is the better choice, performance-wise.

For 35 dollars get the 7950 if you can afford it.

I would go for the 7950 for several reasons.

1. The 7870 XT must be overclocked to compete, the 7950 will run great at stock settings.

2. The 7950 will perform better if you end up crossfiring another later.

3.The 7950 actually uses less power usually, especially when overclocked.

4. The 7950 has 3GB of VRAM instead of 2GB, giving you options for more anti-aliasing and higher resolutions.

Edit*
Also the 7950 is in stock while the 7870 XT is not, and the 7950 offers Crysis 3 instead of Tomb Raider.

I would concur, the 7950(or670) seem best buy atm. Unfortunately I am not informed about the current drivers of AMD-if they finally fixed the microstuttering/jittering delay in frames that accompanied the 7Kseries. Maybe someone(who had/has 7950) could clear this matter.

Ok then, I think it's settled, the 7950 it is. @Consatantin Dumitru, That's a good point, I'll have a look around the forums or maybe just make another post asking about it. @MaxGardener, Also one of the reasons I was leaning more towards it. I think I'll just play Tomb Raider on the 360.

Thanks Guys, much appreciated.

OH! The Sapphire Vapor-x 7950 is back in stock on newegg too. Is that a better card? worth even that little bit extra? I know it definitely looks cooler.

7950 also has a larger memory bus I believe so it should handle higher resolutions a bit better.
