I use some compositing softwares like Cinema 4d, After Effects, PS and need a system to speed up my workflow around 3 to 4x. Especially navigating the viewport and rendering scenes.

my pc now is:

Intel Core i5 2500k @ 3.30 ghz 3.30ghz

8.00 gb max out ( 2 sticks)

Firepro v4900 1gb

256 ssd
1tb internal
500gb external

I either want to plan to buy it in a few months or buy some parts monthly til i achieve them all

Solution

Well what you need are two PCI-E x16 lanes, two graphic cards and one crossfire bridge.
You put the GPUs on their respective slots, then if the firepro or any other requires extra power supply cables for them, you put them, and followed by linking both of them up with a crossfire bridge.

Now you gotta open the catalyst control interface and enable crossfire.. some sticky's might help you more on this because I have absolutely no practical experience with crossfire.. I myself use a single 7970 (I will eventually do a 3x crossfire, but that is another story)

and you're welcome man

If you're going to do rendering or stuff like that then you should be looking at an I7 since they have hyper threading technology for multi threaded applications. Are you going to do any overclocking? If yes then an I7 3770K would be perfect. Also any CUDA enabled applications would benefit from a nvidia gpu since they have dedicated cuda cores. Do you want a completely new build or are you only interested in upgrading a few parts?

I have never over clocked any processors in the past but if its recommended ill look into it. Yes, I am looking to build a new system since ill have to upgrade my motherboard and case etc too.

Man, you really have to give us a budget limit for your workstation. If there is none then the following setup might be good enough I guess:

Intel Ci7 3820(3.6) or 3930(3.2)
16-64 gb Kingston or equivalent
AMD Firepro W5000 2GB
and probably a 256 ig samsung 840 pro ssd

rest of the things should be up to you and according to the specs
mobo could be an ASUS P9X79 ATX form factor

and a 650 W PSU, that should be up to you

my budget limit is 2000 cdn for the whole system. The specs you listed above is around what i was aiming for. Thank you for helping me out thou<

what you could do is get a Ci7 3930, the mobo and the gpu, and reuse all the other components left over from your previous PC, that should save you some more money, maybe enough to get a crossfire config or a 64 gig RAM set too. And you're welcome

Edit: I just checked it out on newegg, it comes to a total of $1684 with one GPU, and a little over $2100 for a crossfire setup
