Hey guys I have a 1 year old Seagate Sata HDD in my pc.

a few days agao i got a computer shop to install me a new GPU (cus im a noob) anyway that guy in the shop said he had to move some things around because the new GPU was longer than the older one.

Ever since i got my pc back i can now hear a static sound it only happens sometimes but often enough for it become quite annoying

Should i be worried about a failing HDD or is it because he moved stuff around that im hearing the insides of my PC more?

I have run some disc checks and it says everythig is fine. I am currently backing up the whole drive as we speak. Just incase of failiure of the HDD

Please let me know what you think?

Here is a video of the pc inside hopefully u can hear the noise above the fans!

PLEASE HELP

Difficult to hear. At one point, I thought I heard more of a buzzing noise. Most likely answer I think would be your new graphics card fan(s) if that is the only hardware that was changed. If he removed the hard drive to be able to make the graphics card fit, you might want to make sure he used all the screws in replacing the hard drive, usually (4) to re-mount the drive. They can produce a rattle type noise if for example he only used two screws on one side, to mount the hard drive.

I just opened it up and tried to listen and pin point it.

I am fairly sure it was coming from either my PSU or GPU. After some research it sounds a lot like coil whineing to me! Is this bad??

I've heard noise from coils before but never from a PC. If you have a coil signing over that fan noise, I would be impressed. Your PSU likely has a bigger load now with the new GPU. If it was a coil, I would also think it would be more constant. The noise is more of an annoyance than a sign of looming failure. Did this guy happen to do some dusting and cleaning in your case at the same time? Possible dust particles in fan bearings?

I got a Evga 660 and i am unsure of the model of the psu it is 750w though and worked fine with my old gpu the 560 ti which took more power than the new gpu!

It looks to be screwed in on both sides. Seems secure. I only hear this noise when im browsing the internet and other small tasks. It seems to go quieter when i play Battlefield 3 which is strange :S

thats is because the browser is caching
if you can borrow a friends spare hard drive and try it and the noise stops then your hard drive is making the noise but make sure to have a full image of your hard
i would reccomed buying on if your hard is the one making the noise
make sure to test it first that way

Quick update:

I went into my power settings on windows and turned it from "High Preformance" to "power Saving" mode and this has got rid of all the sounds!

My computer is running at the same speed and runs games fine without the noise. I dont know what "Power saving mode" does but it worked!

Hopefully its gone forever and my pc wont melt down lol
