After installing XP Home Edition on my PC, the screen resolution remain on 4 bit. The correct VGA Driver was downloaded and installed. In "settings" the slider stay on "Less" and when I click on "Monitor" the "Properties" Tab is not active to make the necessary changes such as monitor name ect. I did try to change the monitors and it makes no difference. I did try some near to disaster changes in the bios and thanks to tom'sHardware got the pc working again. What can I do to fix the monitor resolution problem? The GA-8VD667 MB manual does not address this problem. Please help.

I recommend upgrading you PC to atleast Windows Vista. As far as your question, prior to your installation of Windows XP Home Edition, did it already have XP on it? Or did it have a previous OS? I would say this is a graphics card issue though.

Thanks for your reply. The incorrect driver was supplied and after downloading the correct drivers the problem was solved. I assumed the diver CD supplied was for this MB. I think the lesson here is not to trust the fellow from whom you purchase a second hand PC! The bios was reset to factory settings, a proper registered OS was loaded and the proper drivers installed. The pc is a bit slower than I expected but it's fine for the purpose. Thanks to the fine fellow's here on tomshardware forum I got the PC up and running! Thanks all!
