uneven framerates after overclocking graphic chip

Hi. Im using an acer aspire 4752g with a core i5 2430m processor and a nvidia gt520m graphic chip. previously i overclocked my graphic chip hoping to get more framerates when gaming but instead my framerates became uneven. for example when im playing dota 2 my framerates can go up to 50 frames but then suddenly in will drop to 15 and then increase back to 50. it happens repeatedly. even after restoring it back to factory settings its still the same. could it be because my graphic chip has overheated or the thermal paste has dried out prehaps?

i have already restored it back to factory settings but its still the same. did i damage my graphic chip? or maybe the thermal paste has dried out?
