Alienware Respawn Question - You're My Last Hope

Okay, so I gave my 16 yr old daughter an old Alienware we had (2005-ish). This is from when Alienware was really Alienware (Dell was not the owner back then).

Well, it seems the hard drive is acting up and needs to be replaced. Dell doesn't even know who I am and the "MyHive" section of the site doesn't know me either (Thanks to Dell removing old Alienware Customer Data). I also can't find helpful information as everything seems to be post Dell and different options from this PC.

The system came with an Alienware Respawn / Recovery Boot Disk and Image Disk. This is an Alienware branded Norton Ghost Image (I think). I also think the boot disk needs to see something specific on a very small partion in order to work and then you switch the disks from boot to image disk and restore all of the drivers, software and factory settings.

How would someone do this with a new hard drive?

Since the new drive isn't going to have the special partion data on it I am not sure what to do.... anyone with knowledge of how to switch a hard drive and get the respawn to work I could really use the help.

Thanks

I do not believe that the Respawn disks require any special partition on the HDD. You should be able to do a full restore with a new HDD. That would defeat the purpose of the Respawn/Recovery disks.

I have a newer Alienware than the one you are describing and it is not an issue.

Good luck!

The small partition I am talking about is a total guess. Just a ton of "don't delete the small partition" statements all over the program and disk itself. I was assuming but didn't know for sure.

I guess I can pickup the new drive, try it and if it doesn't work then just put the bad HHD back in.

Okay, this is a litte odd. I opened up Admin Tools in Control Panel and Computer Managment to see how big the partition is... but it doesn't show on. Just Disk 0 and my two optical drive bays. The HHD (Disk 0) is smaller than the actual size (for the partition) but I can't see it.

I do know when I put the respawn disk in it sees the partition section...

So with this new foind information, how would one clone it?

The partition you are looking for is considered a hidden partition by Windows. This doesn't allow you to access it through normal means. Clonezilla once burned to a disc can be used to clone the partition because it shows all partition on the hard drive.
