Getting games off of an external HDD

Ever since I started using multiple harddrives, I decided to keep the operating system on my SSD and route all new programs and games to my 1tb 7200. Recently I decided to install a fresh install of Windows 8 because I was having some issues with my original problem.

So, I'm on a fresh operating system and it doesn't detect my games and programs from the 1tb 7200. I can manually retrieve the launchers for some games, like world of warcraft, and then update the ProgramData folder that holds launcher data allowing me to play, but other games that don't use an updating launcher like Fallout: New Vegas cannot be manually opened and played. And even though I play World of Warcraft the system does not recognize it as a program that I have installed, it just exists and is playable.

So how can I use these programs and games that don't let me manually use them? How can I get windows to detect all my programs?

Thank you,

The reason Windows does not detect games is because it is not made to work that way.

Your best bet is to just reinstall the games over the old install location. It can be a pain, but it is about all you can do.

This will recreate any programdata and registry entries needed at the same time.

Now MAY be able to save your self some update time by renaming the old folder before installing the game(so it will install in a new folder), then once the install is done, copy and past the OLD game over the fresh install(this works perfect for steam, it will take care of fixing games as needed on first play).
