ok this motherboard is from the x58 line. the cpu is x i7 920 bios is up to date powersupple is a 650watt coolermaster real power pro. antec 1200 case. and 2x radeon 7850

im wondering how hot a motherboard can get cause im running a multi x20 @172mhz vcore 3.225 qpi 1.3v memory 1.65v 7-7-7-24
its a dual channel g-skill sniper set designed to run at 1866mhz but I have them at mem multi x8

my cpu temps are fine they do get 85c during cpu stress test.
but my motherboard just at idel reads 90c in hw monitor systin and in speccy and I cant seem to get it stable also under full load that mainboard temp stays at 90c

on stability test I can get prime small FFTs with no issues however if I use in place large ffts or blend it will completely freeze but usualy turns computer off

there is a few things in there I know nothing about never seen one is qpi power management.
the other is override vrr limit

im thinking its memopry that's having trouble even though the memory I believ is fine I don't know what the advanced number values should be like tref trfc ect and the board I think is lowering values to much when I set 7-7-7-24 it wanted 7-7-719

the memory I have is http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168202314607

also I think it may have something to do with my crossfire setup cause I don't think I had these problems before

any thoughts on this? iv since lowered the speed turbo boost off with a set 3.2ghz with nearly stock voltages games don't crash but it wont pass large FFT's or blend test.

is there any possible way my 3yr old coolermaster real power pro is having trouble running the crossfire and all. the computer just shuts off instead of blue screening and iv only seena few freazes. usualy power just goes out

Hello Buddy

I am still using a i7 930 @ 4.2ghz and have recently adjusted my oc so hope I can help.

I have had a quick read through your post and tried to work out what your issue is. Firstly I believe it must be a typo but you say that your vcore is 3.225!!! I certainly hope not as that is over double what the recommended maximum is for that chip lol.

If the memory is your concern I would download memtest and let it run through a few cycles (will take a while) and see if any errors are thrown up although I have had bad memory pass tests on occasion. If they are not I would try and start testing a few other things such as :

1: Reset your cpu etc back to stock settings and try and run a blend test
2. Reset your cpu etc back to stock settings and try and use an XMP profile in bios
3. Remove 1 of your gfx cards and see how things go

What motherboard do you have btw?

Also I noticed that you are hitting 85C on CPU during load testing which to me is far too high for comfort but we will approach that when we have full details.

the motherboard im using now I have two both fine other then on both one being new the first two memory banks don't work I think though all this time these screws that zalman provided by mail when I lost the bracket kit screws damaged somthin cause they possably are slightly to long barly of notice its a zalman 9500cooler with a 1366braket kit wich prolly needs to go soon. I also have two sets of memory one being ddr3 triple channel kit and ddr3 dual channel kit both 1600 although I don't run um that high and have tested um not with mem test though one by one just botting. if it is memory then theres a bad stik in each set cause there never both in there at the same time. both gskill.

yes that was a typo had to look at that a minute lol vcore 1.325. the motherboard currently in the newer one is an intel dx58og and the other board is a gigabyte ex58-ds4 iv since set vcore back to near stock and speed to 3.2ghz and have few and a lot less times when the pc just shuts off during a prime or a game prime would turn it off on 3.2ghz will go and try stock speed though and see

update, it dos'nt turn off the computer during prime or no freezes and with both graphics cards in. this is the memory im using http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231460

im guessing the culprit is my memory timming I had it running at 1300mhz around there with 7-7-7-24 timmings. I can never seem to get a system to be stable with faster mhz. but on my old board I had a different set less ram though stable with lower timmings both with a dram volt of 1.65

yea, my intel board although it claims and looks like it has an option to run the XMP, its settings it wants to change to are almost identicle to what im running it at....have asked gskill support for the advanced timmings so I can put the timmings in manualy. but they don't seem to know um and its not listed on there product page. cant get pc to boot using just the basic 9-10-9-29 cmd rate 2 timings. also though only way I can get it close to its able speed is to raise the memory multi and uncore to 20 mem multi to 10

It seems like it may well just be an incompatible motherboard / memory issue although I am not sure whether the fact that yoiu are using a double channel setup on a triple channel board is what is causing the issue. I know that it can be done but I have no idea what it does in terms of affecting the timings of the memory (if it does at all).

On a brighter note you will not notive much in terms of performance gains through memory speeds, especially in comparison you get from the gains in cpu / gpu overclocking, so I always concentrate on getting the cpu up to level that I want and working the memory around it to whatever speed seems stable. Think my 1600mhz memory running at 1525mhz for my updated overclock and system seems much smoother and quicker mainly because its stable.

Don't know whether I have really manged to help much but let me know if i can contribute anything else buddy.

Cheers
