I have been trying to get my hdtv setup with my pc as a 3rd monitor for a while, so my friend gave me a mini-dp to hdmi active adpater as a b-day gift.

Unfortunately I have a 6950 that doesn't have any mini-display ports on it.

Rather than going through the trouble of taking it back, I picked up a Display port to mini display port adapter.

On setting it up, I cannot get it to work. Does the passive adapter connected to active adapter just not work? Or could one of the links be damaged?

To clarify, I have DP(normal) to DP(mini) passive connected to a DP(mini) to HDMI active.

When I plug the setup in, the monitor turns on as it would when I connect it normally, then just says no hdmi signal then goes back onto standby.

Thanks ahead.

Are you using Windows 7?

Try right-clicking the desktop and goto Screen Resolutions and hit Detect.

If you see the third option then check for an option to try to connect the monitor

The thing is, when I my PC off, with only the connection in question connected to a single monitor, I get no picture, never mind trying to get it to work with eyefinity.

When you turn your PC off you won't see anything...

What am I missing?

When I turn it off, set the connection, turn it back on, I figured that would be fairly obvious.

I see it sounded like you expected a signal with the PC off

Dual adapters is likely the issue

DP(normal) to DP(mini) passive connected to a DP(mini) to HDMI active = too much

What you need is a DP(normal) to HDMI
