I'm starting on my 1st home build. Below are the components that I already have on order. The PC will mainly be used for office type work, a little light gaming and central file server for other PC's on the home network. I was initially planning on just using the onboard GPU for a little while but now thinking I should just go ahead and get a cheaper video card to throw into it right away. Any suggestions on cards under $100 (preferably around $60-80)?

THANKS!!

* 3570k i5 CPU
* ASRock Z77 Extreme4 LGA 1155
* Corsair CX600M 600W
* Crucial Ballistix 8GB (2 X 4GB) DDR3-1600
* Fractal Design Define R4 (4 X 140mm fans)
* CM Hyper 212+ Cooler

If by light gaming you're talking about flash games online, then the onboard graphics card is just fine.

Other than that, get an $80 7750 or a 7700 like imomun linked.

That being said,that computer is WAY overkill for any of the tasks you're talking about. You could easily have gotten away with an i3, 4GB of ram, an h77 motherboard, no cooler, no extra fans in a cheaper case, and a 400w power supply.

+1 This is very true, another thing you could go is go to i5 3550p and H77 or B75 mobo and then get a better GPU, which should increase performance by a fair amount, you would need 2x7970s to bottleneck the i5 in most cases.

Thank you very much for the feedback. Yes, its probably a bit overkill for my current needs but I wanted this thing to last for a while. I'm currently still using an OLD Dell 400SC (P4) and I'm getting ready to throw it through the window with how slow it is! That should give you an idea of how long its been since I've upgraded though :)

I think maybe for now I'll just use the onboard graphics for a bit and see if I need more. I do want to eventually get a nice video card and do some more gaming and overclocking at that point - perhaps I'll wait to install the Hyper 212 and the extra 2 140mm case fans until that point as well. The stock cooler and stock 2 case fans should be OK for now.

Thanks again!!
