DVI/DisplayPort with Dual Link not working

Hello,

I am attempting to relocate my computer (just the computer part) to the closet beside my office, to cut down on the volume of the noisy fans since I do recordings.

However, the new cable I ordered doesn't work. I suspect that it's because it's a *dual link* DVI cable, but I wanted to check before ordering a new cable.

With this new cable my monitor doesn't even recognize that it's plugged into the computer, and even manually telling the monitor to use DisplayPort doesn't work. My computer doesn't detect that another monitor is plugged in either (I have a multi-monitor setup so I can check that)

Here's my configuration:

Monitor: Dell U2412M which has DVI, Analog, DisplayPort. (3 of them actually)
Video: HD Radeon HD 5700 Series (2 of them)
Cable: 25' DVI-DisplayPort cable (dual link): http://tinyurl.com/d4eg8ox
Note: Already working for the other two monitors are HDMI to DVI cables.

I've confirmed that using a standard single link DVI cable works to the DVI port of my monitor, and HDMI (from video card) to DVI (on monitor) also works.

I need 25' because the computer is in the next room over, and I also have a limited size hole that doesn't fit a DVI cable. So DisplayPort or HDMI are what I need.

I've used up the two HDMI ports on my computer so I need the output from my computer to be the DVI (or analog :|). My monitor supports DVI, Analog, and DisplayPort.

Since it's a 25" run, I need something that is supported for that distance.

And I don't see a 25' DVI-D (single link) to Display Port on Amazon. I assume it's too long for single link.

Can I get an adapter on the video card side, or on the monitor side? Any other ideas on what combination would work for this?

Worse case I can order a 25' DVI to DVI cable and enlarge the hole size between rooms, but I would rather do this with DisplayPort if possible.

Many thanks!

Scott

I didn't receive a response from this so my guess is that there isn't an easy fix. I just ordered the 25' DVI to DVI cable and a different outlet cover that will accommodate the larger end. That should arrive in a couple days and I believe that it will be the best solution.
