Ok my friend got a new computer about a year ago. Its a amd phenom 4 with a 4850 gpu. I just now noticed that 4850 are like 50 bucks on ebay. Would it be worth the 50 bucks to crossfire this card? Of course if his set up can handle it.
It might be worth it but it might also be better to upgrade to a single, new generation card.
What are the specs of the system? Please include monitor resolution-not size-and powersupply details.
Biggest issue with Crossfiring two such cards is their lack of memory, 512Mb is n't going to allow much in the way of memory intensive eye-candy these days.
I am still waiting on specs he was on his way to work when I asked and for him 60 bucks is about all he can spend. His main game is wow and that's where he would like to see the improvement.
they are very hot cards that use a lot of power and they don't support dx11, so new games that only support dx11 cards you wont be able to play. that is why they are only $50.

They are no more hot than the nvidia counterpart and the 4850 sips power it's not a power hog at all. The 4850 is/was a good card http://www.hwcompare.com/1776/geforce-gtx-260-vs-radeon-hd-4850-512mb/
No. Totally not worth it. I mean, if this is a machine to let an 8 year old play minecraft on and one is curious about how much a performance boost a CF set would create... sure, its only $50. But if this is a person with a limited budget trying to get real gaming performances... its pretty much a waste. Save up for the $90 hd 7750. Its a budget card, but one that can use all the new shaders and video rendering technology.
