Does gaming with three monitors make a difference?

So I'm stuck between gaming with a 144hz 1080p setup and 3 ~hz setup (not that I can get more than 100 on most games). The only problem with triple monitor gaming is that it requires a good amount of horse-power, and thus meaning it costs ALOT. Even 4 TITANS can't maintain a steady 60 fps on crysis 3 on 5760x1080 with all settings turned up. Of course you can overclock, and it becomes easier with the hydro copper editions (or if you wanna add your own block to it); but when you think about future use, in the next three years it might not be able to withstand that much, meaning you need to dish out another 4k, along with any other components your going to buy in that span. Two monitors is definitely good for productivity, and I already have a monitor now, and of course desktop use doesn't need loads of power; but I'm just wondering if gaming on three monitors (granted you have good enough components to run it well) will really add that much more fun and immersion to the game. I'm willing to spend the money to make it work, but I'd prefer to only do it if necessary.

Right now I have a i7 2700k with a gtx680 and I can run most games just fine at 5760x1080. You will have to make a few sacrafices. You won't be able to run at maxed out settings all the time, and you may have invest in SLI or Xfire if your a real graphics whore. In exchange the added peripheral view can really help immerse you in an FPS or 3rd person action game. And in a MMO like WoW the extra space makes a good place to have damage meters, and other mods. On the other side of the coin, many games just don't work or have bugs. Borderlands 2 main menu is almost unusable, and the in game chat is broken. While X-com just doesn't work.

I had this dilemma last week and i decided to get the 144hz monitor its so much smoother than 60hz, 3 monitor gaming is pretty fun however after the novelty of the new "toy" wears off you and you won't be getting high fps is it something you are will to sacrifice. One montior gaming is fine in most cases and a high refresh just makes for a really smooth gaming experience and in the future you could even pick up more 144hz monitor for a really awesome settings.

I played BF3 and Arkham Asylum at a store with a 3 monitor gaming rig set up and I did not focus on the 2 other screens much. You're mainly just looking at the middle screen. Both games had noticeable lag on dual 6950s and it just didn't look nice and it didn't really add any more fun. Maybe if it was with larger displays in a living room setup with faster cards, it would be better but from that experience, I decided that it's not worth it for me and a single 1080p monitor would be fine for my needs or even two monitors to multitask while playing games. And like the above poster said, not all games or supported yet so in the end, it's not worth it. I think it's just a way for them to suck you in and make you buy expensive more powerful hardware.
