Hi

I just bought a dell dimension 4600 from a garage sell and it won't turn on.

I want to fix this but I don't know what the problem is. When I plug in the power chord into the power supply, the comp wont turn on!

What Ive tried:
-Switching voltage switch
-Turning on comp via motherboard and screw driver

Why I think the problem is the power supply:
The computer doesn't even attempt to turn on. Motherboard doesn't beep or anything. Fans don't move. Front facing power button is not amber.

Does anyone have any idea how to troubleshoot this and/or fix this?

Thanks!

I hope you didn't pay more than $25 for it. I had one as my main machine until a few years ago. Loud & power hungry.

Could be a bad switch or bad power supply.
As said above....open the case. With the PSU plugged in, there should be a green light on the MB.

I paid $20 on it :/
I do not see any green light on the motherboard so I guess that means the PSU is dead. I hope the PSU isn't more than the pc itself.

Im not sure if the motherboard has a led on it. Does the stock 4600 come with a led?

On the back of the case, there are a few diagnostic LEDS. Do they do anything?
Different configuration of lights = different statuses.

No lights probably = bad PSU.

I do not see any lights inside or outside the case what so ever when I plug in the power supply and/or attempt to power on the computer.

On the 4600....just above the PS/2 mouse and keyboard ports. 4 LEDS.
I just looked at the case I have not yet tossed out.
