Changed SSD, HDD no longer shows up

I changed SSDs, and my Samsung 840 is working correctly.

When I booted it up for the first time, it tried to boot the HDD first, so I turned off my computer, unhooked it, and booted up and it went to Windows as C on my SSD.

However, when I shut it back down, and plugged in my HDD, it is no longer showing up as D: or in device manager.

What do I do?

Re-check your wires first, to make sure the power and SATA cables are plugged in firmly. Does the HDD show up in the BIOS?

I checked the wires. Everything seems okay. Let me reboot, and see if it is in BIOS.

I see it in BIOS, and I think I was in the boot order?? It was the far right tab. When I clicked it, it tried to boot it, and it said it did not have an operating system and to alt-ctrl-del.

Edit: yes, it is connected via sata port 0.

It does not show up in Computer management-->disk management.

That's odd. Can you try the drive in a different SATA port? It's good practice to have the boot drive occupy the first SATA port anyway.

Well, it was working when I had my 64 GB ssd as a boot drive and HDD as storage. I can boot it through BIOS, so it works that way, so the SATA port should be fine.

I had something similar happen when I installed Windows 8 on my SSD.

I performed those steps in command line to get my drive to show up.

I fixed it. I ran the Samsung SSD magician, and did a firmware update on my Samsung 840. Upon reboot, it shows up, and functioning.
