Hello,

I have a Corsair GS 700 which the fan doesnt spin unless it has to. On boot the psu does some self test thing where it spins up to max for a moment, thats fine with me but, all the case fans (6 of them) are hooked up on a fan controller, powered by a molex off the psu.

Well, on startup it seems not only does the PSU fan go to 100% but every fan in the case even though they might be turned off on the fan controller.

Im not saying this is a bad thing but its annoying, can anything be done?

Its roughtly for 3 seconds then they settle down to whatever speed i've put them at.

Thanks for any replies.

Three seconds? That just sounds like the fan controller is loading its settings (set in the BIOS?), so I don't think it is possible for the fans to instantly start at the designated speed? Did the fans start at designated speed with the last PSU you had? If so, then the PSU self test may cause the fan controller to wait or something.

Thanks very much for the answers, Slitweaver and henydiah its nothing to do with the bios as the Fan controller is manual off the molex psu.

Goodeggray your answers does sound feasible but its still annoying, there is nothing that can be done?

No, if the voltage is ramped up the motor tries to spin but it needs to over come the mass of the blade it has current go in but no rotation it gets hot until it gets enough current to turn the fan. This will shorten the life of the motor.
