Verbatim 1TB Ext Problem

My Verbatim external drive has stopped working for some reason. My laptop runs Windows 7. I can hear the laptop registering the HD, but the HD isn't appearing. I can hear the registering sound from my laptop every 5 minutes or so. It's as if it wants to connect but can't.

Anyone got any ideas?

Just to add; I've been backing up my music files over the last few days. Occasionally I was getting messages of problems 0x8007045D, and 0x80070037. My HD asked my to scan fix, which I did. But this just totally wiped all of my music from the HD. So I DL my music files again. When I was offered the option to scan fix again, I declined. Not long after that my HD wouldn't register. In fact it began making a clicking sound... Which I know can't be good.
