Windows 7 - moving disk to different HAL

With Server 2003 and Windows XP, you could do an "Inplace Reinstall" to move a disk or disk image to different hardware (if it wouldn't start because of a different "Hardware Abstration Layer")

I just moved my Windows 7 drive from a Dell Precision 390 to a Dell Precision T3400 and it won't start.

I have moved Windows 7 around between several Thinkpad models without a problem.

The "inplace reinstall" was a no brainer with Server 2003 / XP. Just put in the CD, Boot, select "Upgrade" and walk away.

Is there a similar no brainer for Windows 7. There is no Upgrade option when you boot to the DVD.

Click through the options in the install disk until you hit this screen:

The option "Repair my computer" appears towards the bottom of the window beneath the central "Install Now" button

I tried that, the first option was to try a System Restore (from an earlier date). That would not help fix disk controller or other changes resulting from moving the disk to another computer. After that it came up with nothing.
