i have lag issues with games like
Team fortress 2, spiral knights, and World of tanks, and it is my PC. my bro says i need more ram and video memory but that the video memory is more important. i have found some good looking video cards but the power supply is too weak (at only 305 watts) i haven't had much luck finding a replacement for the PSU that will support 450 watts. the first video card i found was a GeForce GTX 660 Ti 2GB, and the reviews pleased me, but then i saw that it needed 450 watts and with no room in my $350 budget for a new PSU i started to look away from it. I saw some thing about the ports out put needing to be at a steady 12v is more important than the need for 450 watts. can any one help with this

Which cheaper you meant? For desktop or laptop? Desktop you can build/buy around 600-700 USD (or less but more headache to upgrade) and play modern games, laptop well, the starting price for cheapest gaming laptop is around $950.
This is almost useless upgrading so old PC. I would recommend getting refurbished one Dual Core Dell for around 200 USD and adding 7750 card, you can get much better PC for around $350.
Upgrading your present one would not make it nowhere close to the refurbished one.

could i instead replace it with a brand new one like the one i suggested above?

Unfortunately there is no cheap gaming laptop, your option has built in Video Chip, which is capable to play only arcade games, noting serious.
This is not advice, but illustration of what is considered a gaming laptop

or for the extremists only

There could be a bit cheaper alternatives, but quality will suffer.

Everything else will overheat, or would not work. Simply said, it is much cheaper to get gaming desktop than a decent gaming laptop.

i have another suggestion ...... i also have a gateway md2614u which doesn't do bad but when i look at windows performance info in the control panel it say the graphics card is the worst part of it can i upgrade this at all? and if i can would it be worth it ?..... i should have $400 give or take some. thanks

Unfortunately most of laptops are not upgradable, in your case I can see that only RAM can be upgraded to 4 GB officially, however, the M780G chipset in your notebook supports up to 8GB RAM, this part is questionable, it should, but may not! Graphics upgrade is not possible for your notebook, the HD 3200 is soldered onto the mainboard. The MD7826u is the only one in the MD line-up that uses MXM upgradeable graphics module.

Sorry for the bad news.
