Hello people,

I just built a new system but I'm experiencing some 'random' shut downs without any warnings. The problem is recurring; as soon as I open Battlefield 3 or Call of duty it shuts down immediately but sometimes I can play with no problem at all. Watching vids on youtube also causes shut down but its not recurring.
Note that GPU driver up to date and so is BIOS. Got Windows 7 installed on a brand new hard drive.
Heat is not an issue; im using stock cooling, idle temp is 17-24 and 30-50 on load.
Ran memtest86 for a few hours without errors.

I've been building my rigs since long and I never came across such a problem. Can someone advise me? Everything is new except for the PSU and the GPU(2months old)

AMD FX-8120 3.1Ghz (never oc'd)
Gigabyte GA-970A-D3 AM3+ UD3
CORSAIR XMS 16GB DDR3 1333
MSI Geforce GT610 1GB (low profile)
Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200rpm
Western Digital 320GB 7200rpm
PSU 450w

thanks

If it is a no-name, it likely makes far less than the stated wattage. Probably around 300w actually. This could be the problem. I'm not positive because your GPU pulls so little power. If you can get another better quality PSU to test, I would do that.

You need a new PSU. One with 8 pin connector. Look at Antec, XFX, Corsair, Seasonic.

Ok will buy a new one tomorrow. But I've heard that the 8pin connector is not a necessity, at least not when overclocking. I also noticed that the cores occasionally run at 3.5/4Ghz but its supposed to be only 3.1Ghz(I did not oc).
I use core temp.
