Hey! ok, I'm about to build a gaming system and I'm getting the AMD FX-6200 cpu, and i wondered if anybody knew what was the maximum stable overclock for it with the Corsair H70 cpu water cooler? or with the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO? I haven't actually bought either cooler yet, as I cant choose between them. Which would be better for overclocking?
Thanks in advance,
Raf

In all reality the H70 would do a better job but for cost and value the Hyper 212 is also a very solid choice. As far as max overclock with a 6300 it really depends on the cpu itself, which applies to all hardware, everyone gets something slightly different.

Np, I looked at the 6200 series as well. Considering they run 4.1ghz in turbo mode I think you can expect 4.5-4.6 w/ an H70 :) Do you have experience with overclocking by the way? If not make sure you do your research and come back to Tom's with any questions!

I was thinking about getting the 8350. Not sure if I can afford it though. I'll have to see when it comes to the time. What cooler are you using?

I run my 8350 24/7 @ 4.5ghz and have benchmarked mine at 5.0ghz, I love this cpu. It also does amazing in all the highest end games. The 6200 is certainly adequate to run most games in their highest settings assuming you will have a solid gpu to run those settings.

Sounds awesome :D and no, this will be my first build, and desktop computer so I've never done any over clocking, I've been researching it though, YouTube videos, forums etc etc

Yeah I just bought the Sapphire Radeon HD 7850 OC Edition, so it should be fine

Cool man you are good to go. Whether you go 6200 or 8350 you will have a nice gaming system capable of handling the highest end right now, those Sapphire cards overclock pretty well also. Goodluck with everything :) Have fun!

I'm running an FX-6200 at a stable 4.4Ghz right now. My cpu temps run about 46-47C after 30 minutes of prime95. I cant seem to budge mine past 4.4 and still be stable. But I know very little about overclocking so I am still hoping there might be a way for my system to run a little faster. I would really like to reach 4.6-4.8Ghz. As far as coolers I was running a Hyper 212 plus in push pull until two days ago when I pulled it and installed a Seidon 120M. At first I had the fan drawing air from inside the case and exhausting through the radiator hoping to prevent it from drawing dust into my case. My temps were actually worse than the Hyper 212 plus. I turned the fan around and that helped with my temps now almost exactly the same as they were running with the Hyper 212 plus. Depending on when you look they are the same or maybe 1C higher with the Seidon. I used Acrtic Silver 5 on both coolers and I'm hoping the temps on the Seidon might improve a degree or 2 once the thermal paste burns in.

I bought the Seidon because it was $40.00 with a rebate and I needed another cooler as I am putting another system together right now. It seemed like a good price so I figured I'd give it a try. Hopefully I'll actually receive that rebate. I'm a little disappointed with the Seidon's initial performance. I had hoped it would be an improvement over the hyper 212. But in my opinion it doesn't come close to the 212 plus or the 212 Evo for performance vs value. Especially when you consider that the Evo is supposed to be a degree or so cooler than the 212 plus. Also there is a lot less to possibly go wrong with an air cooler.

If you have a big enough case with good airflow then you cant beat the 212 plus or Evo for the money. My case is a CM 912 HAF with all fan slots full. It has excellent airflow and worked very well with the air cooler. I have no idea how the H70 compares to the Seidon 120M. But the only positive I can see for the Seidon is if your case is to small for the air cooler or does not have the greatest airflow then it might be a good choice. It does seem to be of very good quality. It's not that I think it's a bad cooler as much as I think the Hyper 212 plus and Evo's are excellent for the money. Oh and I just remembered that by turning the fan up I can get the Seidon to cool about 1 deg cooler than my 212 plus. But the fan at that level is annoyingly loud.

Don't know if this helps any since your looking at the H70 as opposed to the Seidon 120M. Maybe you can find a comparison between those two. I'd like to hear how your OCing goes. I don't see a lot of people with the FX-6200.

Very happy to be of some help. In regards to my overclock... I have been overclocking using my BIOS up until now. Last night I downloaded AMD overdrive and let it auto overclock my system. It proved that my chip is capable of running 4.6Ghz stable. It raised my CPU Vcore to something like 1.458. Don't quote me on the numbers I am on break at work right now so I don't have them in front of me. Anyways it showed me that it's my motherboards BIOS that is limiting me. My chip needs more voltage but my BIOS settings don't go near that high. At that voltage my CPY temps are running 59C. It hit 60C just long enough to register it as the max temp. But it settled down to 58-59C. Now if MSI would just update the BIOS to allow more voltage. But I've read that MSI boards have been known for VRM failures in the past. Maybe this is their way of fixing their problem. Oh well I was looking for a budget board when I bought it and most others that compare were $30-50 more. I don't know if you've already got you motherboard or not but if you plan on overclocking I would look something other than an MSI 990XA-GD55.
