Either would make sense. Even 670 SLI would be good for high end performance at a better price than the 690.

With a 680, you'll get good performance, but with a 144hz monitor, I imagine you want to get 100+ FPS, in which case, the 690 would get you close to that without lowering a lot of settings. 670 SLI would be a more economical choice than the 690.

Do you intend to play in 3D Vision?

I might try but not at this point in time I'm really tryna stay away from 3gs so it looks like I'm getting gtx 690 but the second the gtx 690 drops to 500 I'm going into sli than I'll get 3d

If you want to plan for a 2nd one, Titan does the best in SLI, but the 690 by itself is faster than Titan. Anyways, 120 FPS in 2D is about the same as getting 60 FPS in 3D, only 3D has fewer CPU bottleneck issues at 60 FPS.

Even a single gtx 670 would give good performance for a single monitor. I have 3 of those 144hz monitors and a 670 would drive them usually medium or higher settings with minimal aa on at 60+ fps. I swapped over to the titan just to be able to run at high all the time and not have to worry about any slowdowns.
