yeah it should. You don't need it though. I've built many systems and never used one. Never had a problem.

Anyway, Most likely is still good But They do go bad even without washing - LOL.
At work we are required to check them daily.
They have a 1 megohm resistor that sometimes becomes open, but could check with a digital multimeter.

A metal wire will still conduct regardless if its wet and banged around a bit, will be fine.
Maybe try powering a lightbulb from a battery through it if you dont have a multi-meter.
