This one is a head-scratcher

So I am at a loss of what the hell is going on with my system. I consider myself pretty knowledgeable about PC trouble shooting, having fixed rigs for years. My own as well as professionally. This one is a head scratcher though.

I noticed off and on sometimes when playing Starcraft 2 (only starcraft 2, not any other games) and sometimes images with a black background on facebook etc would start to get green flickering pixels randomly all over. There would be no pattern to it.

So I figured either my HDMI cable (its mini hdmi to normal sized hdmi) was going out, or my 2 gtx 460s that I have been running in sli were starting to go bad (or one of them anyway). A possible VRAM issue.

So I did some tests:

Ran them both separately. Both still had the problem when launching starcraft 2.
Ran them together with SLI disabled. Still had the problem.
Tried booting the machine through the DVI to VGA connector and my monitor wouldnt even get a signal from either card.
Took the cards out and dusted them and found that the SLI bridge was somewhat shot. Replaced it. Still the same problem.

So I then hooked my PC up to my 28 inch old LCD tv via VGA to DVI. Problem was gone.
Then I rebooted with the same 28 inch LCD tv with the HDMI cable. Problem is still gone. Let it sit for a while. Problem isnt back yet.

So I have only experienced this issue when graphics cards go bad or cables go bad, but never when an LCD monitor starts to go. It is so odd because it ONLY happens on this game really.

Any thoughts? Yes my drivers are up to date.

I agree with the above posts that it seems that it would be the panel. I had a similar issue although not exactly the same and I managed to fix it myself by taking the monitor apart and replacing the capicitors that had gone. This may not be the same issue but I would definitely attribute the issues to the screen itself.

From what I'm reading, you've eliminated everything and it looks like your monitor is going out because you've switched it out with a 28" TV and it's working fine, right? I would say that it's the monitor. Not sure why it's only with that game, though...

It might be a bandwidth issue. I used hdmi 9 foot and could not get the top resolution of my monitor. Used a plain DVI and got the required bandwidth. Hdmi can auto negotiate frequency compensation based on line loss, but might not be implemented. Try a DVI cable?
