alright. ive been doing more research than i can keep my eyes open for... so time for Q&A&Q&A&Q&A&Q&A&Q&A&get frustrated!

server needs to be able;
stream to androids, windows, macs (tablet, laptop, desktop)
file share (^to all those)
read/write/execute...
that way i can put my music/video library in it (tons of terabytes in size) and listen to it without having to DL it every time, and can access it anywhere.
have some type of password security level... id like to share my music with friends, but dont want to give them other certain folders...

id like to start small 10 terabytes or less, then upgrade to more later.
i don't know what setup will best fit me, but i expect to put in 10TB a year.

i grow about 100GB a week. and once i give access to some close friends and family, i figure it'll be around 250GB a week. which isn't bad IMO, that's 10 terabytes a year (ignoring the fact i filled 2 terabytes in 6 months... (trying to slow down before i own google(that's a joke)))

i figure usage will be:
%1 ~ no usage
%60 ~ me only
%10 ~ only one other person
%19 ~ 2-5 people (i may or may not be one)
%30 ~5-15 people (i may or may not be one)

reason i say how much i will use it, is because the server will be within arms reach of my desktop, and wasnt sure if there is some type of wire, so my desktop can access it extra fast? (it may sound stupid, but i dont know, thats why im asking)

hardware specs id like;
uber fast processor closing in around 4GHz?
plenty of RAM, figure 16GB should hold 10 people on the server?
figure intergrated graphics/cheap GPU?
lots and lots of HDs id like really fast speeds, no point in wasting time with 5400RPM/SATA 1.5 how about sataIII with 7400RPM?

what OS would you recommend. i was thinking freeNAS, i get confused how raid works with it... id like 1 drive backup.

how much? 32GB? trying to keep the build under $800 without storage

32 should cover you, yeah.

As for the build, it shouldn't be that bad - slightly over budget, but not much:
