I have a m5a97 r2.0 motherboard. Has great features in its uefi for overclocking.

I have all the necessary software, prime95, cpu-z, and hwmonitor.
I do know how to use them as well.

I currently have a Athlon II x4 645 3.1Ghz (locked)
for overclocking test purposes. (I have a FX-8350 in a week)

My PSU is a Corsair Cx 750W

Hyper 212 EVO as my CPU Cooler

Now the problem. I can slightly overclock to 3.3Ghz
38c at idle and 45c full load with prime 95

Those temps are great!

Note: Because my CPU is locked the highest multiplier I can go to is 15.5x
So I had the BUS speed increased to about 220. When I try to increase it higher just to 225 to 3.4 GHZ, when I prime95 it (put it at full load) I get the BSOD.

I am giving it enough juice as well..1.45volts. nothing higher, nothing lower.

What could I be doing wrong? The temperatures for the slight lower clock settings had amazing temps.

No hyper threading on AMD CPU's. You may very well be at the limit of that CPU. Wait for your 8350, you will have fun with that one, it was meant for overclocking. I had a 965 that would not go over 3.8 ( stock 3.4 ).

Sorry but confusing definition HT link or hyper transport is set by multiplier or frequency in your BIOS. Your athlon has HT of 2000MHz and you need to keep it around that. So if you overclcoked to 225 then it is now running at 2250 and you need to lower. MP of 9 would get you to 2025 which would be OK.

The M5A97 is not the best choice for overclocking. Ive built a couple machines with this board, well two of the same boards and both had stability issues, with and without overclocking.
