Just having a bunch of annoying problems with my computer.

Okay. So I built my computer in October 2011, and the specs are in my sig (I've made a few upgrades since then). It works amazingly most of the time, and there are no problems while I'm, say, playing a game, or browsing the internet. But I've been having issues elsewhere that keep occurring and that I really have no idea how to fix.

  • ■ It takes a really long time to log in when I boot the computer up, like a minute. This hasn't always happened, and I haven't seen it take this long on any other Windows machine. It's weird.

    ■ My computer will sometimes restart randomly, and then act like it recovered from a crash when it comes back on. The weird thing is, this never happens when
I'm using it; it seems like it only happens when the computer's asleep.

    ■ Often, when I put the computer to sleep (which I do every night), it will either take about two minutes to actually go to sleep, or I'll just get a BSOD and it'll shut down. So that sucks.

    ■ I have my display set to sleep after 20 minutes of inactivity (the computer stays on), and sometimes, once the display has slept, I either am unable to turn it back on and have to restart the computer, or the display turns back on and is at a 640x480 resolution, and I have to unplug the DisplayPort cable and plug it back in to get it back to normal.
I've been meaning to make this post for a while, because these things in combination can just piss me off to no end. If anyone can help me out with solving even one of the issues, that'd be awesome. Thanks!

Sounds like driver issues, TBH.

I'd recommend system restore and see if it fixes your issue. If immediately following the restore process it prompts you for an update - don't install it. Said update is likely what screwed it up to begin with.

Yeah, I was afraid someone was going to say that. Do you mean do a clean install, or just install it over the current version and have it keep all my files?

If it's driver issues, couldn't I just reinstall all of my drivers?

When I tried System Restore with XP, it screwed up my laptop so bad!!! Since then, I'm afraid to try anything like that.

Reinstalling drivers is what you should do BEFORE reinstalling windows. Remove the drivers you got, and then Windows Update should give you new ones to download.

You can do a non-formatting setup, which will create a new Windows directory for you, but you'll have to re-install your programs. You should make a backup of your files anyway before messing with stuff.
