Weird driver problem with gtx 660

About 2 hours ago when I was browsing the internet the display went off all of the sudden. All black so I couldn't anything and proceeded to do a forced shut-sown. It happened quite a few times and I couldn't do anything. It even happened in safe mode. I thought it was the cable from the gpu to the monitor but it wasn't. One of those time, before the display went off, a notification appeared saying that the nvidia driver I installed last week stopped working or was having problems. In one of the attempts I had enough time to uninstall the driver. I restarted the PC normally and the display went off again.

Now I'm here on safe mode and have no idea what to do. Should I install the drivers from Nvidia once more and see what happens? or what should I do?

Now sometimes the PC is not even booting up. I tried using an old GTX 210 from my brother and when I turned on the system the motherboard made a few beeps and nothing appeared. Now I'm using mi 660 and running a restore to yesterday before everything happened. let's see how this goes

If someone has a suggestion please help me

on safe mode I ran the DirectX diagnostic tool and this is what I got!!?

That your problem persists with a different graphics card suggests that the problem is with something else in your system.

Do you know what the beep pattern was when it failed to boot with the 210? This will tell you something about what the computer thinks the issue is.

Beep patterns and no boot when switching GPU's can normally be solved by resetting the CMOS jumper.

Can you try your card in another system to verify that it still works?

It's one long and three short beeps, the only one that decribed that sound was supposely "Video (EGA) Display Circuitry". But it says IBM and i don't know if my ASUS mobo uses an IBM bios

One long, three short is a memory (RAM) error. It is possible your RAM is faulty, or you just bumped something fiddling with the graphics card. Try reseating your RAM, and see if that works. If it doesn't, and you have multiple sticks of RAM, try removing all but one and try each stick, in case one was faulty.

I have a pair of Corsair Vengeance 4Gb each and moved them to the other pair of slots and they didn't work. Now they are where they were before and everything seems to be working fine. I'm currently using my brothers HD 6850 and he is using my GTX660. Soon I'll put my gpu on this computer again and hopefully I won't encounter problems.

BTW if the problem is the RAM, can I use two different? I have a G. Skill 4gb low voltage laying around

It might work, but it is generally it is recommended to stick with the same type of RAM. I have not messed around with trying different types myself, so I cannot comment on whether this will work from my personal experience.

The problem persisted when I put my gpu back. I have 2 pairs of ram and tried them individually in every combination. The results were too inconsistent. Only 2 on them worked and it was only a few times. So in my desperation I took everything awayfrom the case and connected it over my table beside the keyboard and kept trying with the RAM. Immediately I noticed that the GPU fan wasn't spinning and I found it strange because it was my 2nd attemp and in the 1st one it was ok. I pushed the RAM harder in its place while turning on the computer and it worked. After a while I placed both of the memory stick(the corsair ones) andand noticed how the graphics card worked only in a certain position. After that no more of the motherboard sounds. I'm keeping it there with a tiny box I had around.

I believe the problem in all this was the contact between the mobo and the graphics card. I'll see how I can solve this when I put everything back in the case. If you think there is another reason or have a solution let me know. I need to pay my rent and stuff so I not considering getting a new mobo.

You mentioned the card worked fine in your brother's PC. Have you tried his 6850 in your PC?

I had a similar problem once that was due to a bent pin in the PCIe slot. Can you inspect the slot for any signs of damage, debris or maybe even dirt?

Yes, his 6850 worked perfectly on mi PC and we even played a match together on BF3. I don't think there's dirt or dust in the slot but yeah maybe it's bent. I'll check it with a flashlight tomorrow when I come back from college. For the moment it's working with a box supporting the weight of the card. It seems like it's too heavy and it tends to fit in an angle lower than the horizontal. It's not very obvious when you see it.

I guess you are talking about the ones that hold it to the case and all the expansion slots have them. Yeah they are both where they need to be as you can see them in the above picture

Just wanted to confirm, the background is a bit out of focus.

So let's summarise:

HD6850 + Your PC = works
HD6850 + Brother's PC = works
GTX660 + Your PC = Doesn't work unless you prop the card up with a box
GTX660 + Brother's PC = works

Is that an accurate summary?

With large video cards.check that the mb is in straight in the case and the Pci slot cover line up and go all the way in. Also check that the white video card latch is working and not broken or Jammed.
