I'm about to build a budget gaming pc and I was originally going with an AMD phenom ii be x4 965, but I was looking around and saw the fx-4300 is only about $20 more.

Which would be better for gaming? I noticed the fx-4300 is clocked a little faster, and uses less power which isn't a bad thing in my opinion. Also the video card is a
EVGA SuperClocked GeForce GTX 660 2GB, would I get any bottleneck with this combo?

You will bottleneck a little bit since both of them have lower IPC than other processors, but the Phenom II X4 965 have better IPC than FX's processors and can clock to 4GHz on a good board, thus giving you loats of fun to tweak. If your power supply it's a little low go then for the FX-4300 wich can overclock in the ~ 4.5GHz range consuming more power; but nevertheless either of them it's a great choise.

Are there any other CPUs in the price range that I won't get any bottleneck with? I would prefer to not have to overclock if I don't have to.

In the AMD lineup no. Probably not in the Intel lineup either.

i have a fx 4300. i play many games on it, including crysis 3, bioshock infinite, call of duty, and other games and never lag at all. i have it clocked at 4.0-4.1 when playing. at it always stays under 40c degrees. i love it.

skyrim won't notice the difference between the 6300 and 4300 as its limited to 4 cores maximum. online games generally will favor the 6300.

between the 4300 and the 965, id pick the 965. In technical terms, the 965 has 4 full cores, the 4300 has 2 modules that share a fpu between each module.

IE its not 4 full cores, its 4 integer cores and 2 fpu cores.

as for performance overall, id say 6300>965>4300.
