Chances are you data is still on the hard drive because usually what has happened is that partition table got rewrote when you reformatted and the old data is marked so that if you do write any data to your drive it will be overwritten . Recovering it however can be a tricky process even for pro's. Here are a couple of list of free programs that may be able to assist you:

I am not sure if having your data protected by bitlocker will messup the recovery process but unless you want to spend big bucks on a real pro (who by the way are really few and far between when it comes to true data recovery) you might as well try these programs and see if they can help.

If it was encrypted then it is beyond simple recovery programs.. Maybe someone else knows a trick to get the data but I am fairly sure the whole point of encryption is so that you can not just rip the data off the hard drive and unless you can get your old partition back and be able to input you password to decrypt your data, other than that it may be beyond most peoples level of expertise to recover the data..
