So I was doing some light gaming (wow) and my screen went blue with vertical lines and froze. On restart there was no signal to monitor. I tried reseating the card, switching it to a different slot, then finally putting my old card back in which worked swimmingly.

The card in question is a HIS Radeon HD 7870 IceQ Turbo which I was running on factory settings.

My PC Specs are

i5 3570k OCd at 4.2 GHZ (still on stock voltage) on a MSI z77a-G45

8gb Crucial Ballistic 1600 ddr3

HIS Radeon HD 7870 IceQ Turbo

Antec Neo 620w PSU

CM Hyper 212+

Running 6 120mm fans and a 140mm side fan

When I started the computer the fan on the GPU spun up fine there was simply no picture. No beeping or anything like that and everything seemed to load there was just no picture.

Since I bought this in person at Microcenter I am going to return it at the early possible convenience (I purchased it on the 12th) but I am extremely dissapointed at the moment. I would love to stick with a 7870 but since they don't have any other decent ones (or apparently ANY decent ones) in store I will likely shell out some more cash for a EVGA 660ti SC.

*tears*

sounds like a defective card, i feel your pain...

i have not bought products from HIS, but a couple years ago I bought a gigabyte GTX 560ti ($250.00 at the time) that i had to return 3 times...(well i returned it twice, i gave up and never sent it back the 3rd time). I was also only playing WOW and LOL so the card should have easily handled those games, but i was having the same issue as you. this has left a sour taste in my mouth for Gigabyte GPU's. I am now using a Visiontek 7850 2GB and it works perfectly.

Thanks for the sympathy - I will let you guys know if Microcenter actually honors their return policy or tries to pawn me off on the manufacturer. I don't see any reason why they shouldn't but you never know.

The tears are shared dude !

About the dude above sad - i have never got a problem with GIGABYTE GPU Card`s - guess i`m lucky :)

My favor is : SAPPHIRE - VAPOR-X ver. are great choose
Second one : GIGABYTE - just for old love :) - don`t have recent experience

I even manage to kill the PSU under 3 h gaming like you did - ( 700W OCZ Modular ) and the GPU - SAPPHYRE HD 4870 Vapor-X survived and i still using it :)
my luck that it was under warranty and i got RMA on the PSU

660ti is nice one !

A++ to Microcenter's CSR people. Well they barely asked questions.... the one lady manager did give me an odd look but i ended up exchanging and getting a EVGA GTX 660ti SC. I know some people have had issues with EVGA but I've had a few of their cards and never had problems. Would really have like to tried AMD longterm but they didnt have any non "bargain" brand 7870's in store and I didnt want to wait.

*edit* - The only thing really making me nervous is I have no idea WHY the HIS Card bricked so quickly. I mean I built this rig maybe 9 months ago and never had a problem when I was running a 550 TI, which is alot different but still the rig has an Antec PSU which is pretty quality and its had more than enough capacity to handle the card....... and I didnt do anything stupid like try and install the card with the machine on, I don't consider myself a pro but Ive built a few computers over the years and have dealt with the requisite problems along the way.

Just hope I dont slag this new one in under a week too.
