Hi there, i bought a i7 920 a few months ago, it runs at 2.66 Ghz. Would it be a good idea to overclock it for better Fps/overall performance.
The game I play is dayz, i have read on the internet that this game is very CPU intensive. And you need a minimum of 2.4 Ghz to play this game
my question is, would it be wise to overclock. If it doesnt make a difference that much i wont do it.
My setup

i7 920
Hd radeon 4870
2 x 2gb OCZ 1600 mhz (Should i make this 8gb for better gaming performance?)

before trying overclocking get a decent cheap but really effective "cooler master hyper 212 evo" tower heat sink and fan. and you can safely overclock up to 3.60GHz just like i did. and yea it will perform a lot better you will even be surprised

and for the memories i would go for at least 4gb. 8 is barely needed... but if you have the budget ofc get some pretty shining 8gb of memory :) it will help a lot

You can certainly try 4GHz Theres many guide online to help
like this : http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/cpus/2008/11/06/overclocking-intel-core-i7-920/2
And will certainly help with recent games.
As the other poster said you will need better cooling as stock cooler is only good upto 3.6GHz
Get another 2GB ocz 1600MHz so you will have 6GB in triple channel, Great for gaming.
Thanks

Thanks guys, im aware of that. I need a low profile one , I have tried to fit the Scythe mugen 2 rev . But it didnt fit in my case. Will the "cooler master hyper 212 evo" fit in my case, if not which other suggestions do you have?>
thanks

because its has a triple channel memory controller

so according to intel the optimal configuration is multiples of 3

ie 6gb 12gb

will still work with 4gb or 8gb with two modules but will only run in dual channel

whether this makes a difference in real life i dont know

but intel says its faster and offers more performance per watt in triple
