Hello there! I am brand new to this forum but I've heard lots of great things about it so I decided to give it a whirl. Nice to make your acquaintance, everybody!

Now, while I do enjoy the latest 'n greatest in technology...I'm afraid I know next to nothing about it.

I've been an avid gamer since my very early childhood and not too long ago I started playing games on the PC...what a visual upgrade from console gaming! I also make music but to a lesser extent.

I had a gaming rig but I had it made by a local computer shop about 6 years ago but ...it's been a while. (I got a new graphics card at one point but that wasn't enough unfortunately to keep up with all the new games) and I'm basically looking for a powerful, fresh start.

As I stated above, I know virtually nothing about what parts are good and what aren't. Somehow, I don't really know many people who are good with this sort of stuff either. A friend of mine recommended this to me insisting that it was the best graphics card I would be able to find for under $400 but could provide no further assistance. Is it that great?

SAPPHIRE 100354XTL Radeon HD 7870 XT w/Boost 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 CrossFireX Support Video Card

So, to sum it all up...I want a great PC that can run all the newest, most impressive games (including ones that aren't out yet) on their highest settings with no slowdown or other performance issues while still being great for other things such as browsing the internet, watching videos, etc...the usual stuff!

Aaaaaand without further ado, here is me filling in the blanks for you guys! Thanks in advance for any help! :D

(if you guys need me to answer any other questions in order to help, let me know!)

---------------------------------------------------------

Approximate Purchase Date: Next week would be fantastic, if not the week after latest.

Budget Range: 1500 is my max. Before rebates.

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming, Surfing The Internet, Audio Recording (I think all that really matters for this is storage and the sound card though, I could be wrong?)

Are you buying a monitor: Nope mine is still good for the time being! I had bought a new one a couple years ago so I'm good for now.

Parts to Upgrade: Just about all of them, I'm sorry to make this complicated guys!

Do you need to buy OS: Yes. Windows 7.

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: None, the only one I know of is NewEgg!

Location: Montreal, Quebec, Canada

Parts Preferences: None.

Overclocking: Maybe (I don't think I'll need to? To be perfectly honest I don't really know anything about the subject)

SLI or Crossfire: I don't know what this means either, LOL. I've heard Crossfire is good though? but that requires two graphics cards doesn't it? Whatever you guys think is the best bang for the buck, I suppose!

Your Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080

Additional Comments: Quiet is always nice. Sleek looking tower. Maybe a new keyboard/mouse if it fits in the budget? Definitely upgradable, too.

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: My PC is incredibly outdated. I just want to completely start over to be honest. I like that feeling when you have a computer that boots up in seconds instead of minutes and doesn't slow down when doing minute tasks, lol.

Didn't include an optical drive(just reuse the one you already have). That 7870xt is a great card, but your budget allows for a better one. I included the parts needed to overclock, but that certainly doesn't mean you have to. Think of it as a way to have your Pc perform better for a little longer in its lifetime.

You can certainly save some money, but for that budget again, this is pretty typical.

:Edit: Didn't add a sound card. Unless you work producing or editing music, you don't need an add-on card. The quality of the onboard sound has vastly improved in the last 3-7 years.

Ah! I forgot to mention that I will be giving my old computer to my mother...I owe her for birthing me and stuff.
And I actually do edit/produce music! Haha :)

Aah, well then :)

Didn't include a sound card. I'm not going to recommend one because I don't know exactly what would be most important for you in a card. However, you have room in your budget for one.

Thanks guys!

I'm curious as to what other awesome combinations are possible, anybody else want to weigh in with their suggestions? :)

I'ma bring 'em to my friend's dad who's apparently savvy and puts together PCs for fun.
