Multi display problem

Hi. I have a strange problem and not sure how to fix it. I have a destop acer aspire z5761, i have it nest to my hd 42 inch tv. Until today i have been running a dual monitor with no problems. However today the display on the tv which is usually fine went blank. I was able to see my desktop background but nothing else could be dragged onto it. So i did a system restore and this is where it gets odd, my computer decided to change the main display to the tv rather than the monitor, this wouldnt normally be a problem however now when turning on my computer with the cable for the tv inserted the display only appears on the tv screen and leaves my monitor blank. However the cursor is on screen but cant be moved and no key strokes work so i am unable to do anything until i unplug the cable leading to the tv for the computer. The question is really how can i change the dual screen display options without the cable being plugged into my computer as when its inserted i am not able to move the cursor or use any short cut keys??? please help. P.s i have run system restores which have not worked, i a have tried using old drivers for the display with no luck and also unistalled and re installed all drivers. I have run in safe mode, however it doesnt recognise dual screen when in safe mode so please help. thanks

Sorry maybe i didnt make myself clear. i can unplug the tv and use my computer fine. However when i turn the tv back on and insert the cable into the pc, the pc defers to the dual screen displays which is showing the tv as the main display and this is frozen and i am unable to move the mouse or use any keys.

No i cant make the monitor default when i have it on as there is no option as i have the tv unplugged so the dual screen options are not available. And i have tried using all different drivers and using older versions and disabling them but still no luck with it fixing the problem as , as soon as i plug the tv back in the display reverts to main display being shown on the tv and the frozen screen with no access. I basically need to know how to change multi screen options without having the tv plugged in beeause as soon as i plug it in i am frozen out and not able to change any options . thanks

Sounds like you need to run driversweeper. Uninstall drivers, run driversweeper, and then reinstall drivers. You need to make the computer forget all about the borked dual screen stuff.

Re-reading your post I'm not sure this is the issue anymore. I see this happened after a restore. Are you using a card or is this all onboard stuff? I'd still try running driversweeper. Just in case.

thanks again for the advice but after running a drivesweeper and re installing the drivers but still no luck , the same thing happens as soon as i plug the tv in it reverts to being the main display and freezes still.
