Will these parts all work ok together for a gaming computer? I went with the amd 8350 because next gen consoles have 8 core processors so maybe games will be optimised for 8 cores.

Console hardware is maybe a step above laptop hardware. Despite the fanboys' constant frothing at the mouth over every minute detail of the new systems being released desktop PCs aren't going away any time soon. The FX-8350 is a decent CPU sure but the i5-3570K or i5-3470 would be far better. What is now appearing on consoles we've had in the PC world for YEARS, decades even. Games will not make use of 8 cores for several years. It's part of Moore's law - the software is always going to be one or two generations behind the hardware.
