Im trying to use two monitors and have them both show the same thing. I read that if i mirror the display to two monitors while gaming it increases the load on the graphics card since it has the display twice the number of pixels. My question is, can an HDMI splitter take the load off the video card? If not is there another device that can do this? Im interested in making a pc dedicated to recording/streaming using an Hd capture device(Which the computer will recognize as the second monitor). This is the only question stopping me from going through with it. No point in making a streaming pc if its gonna lag the video card.

Im using a GTX 660 as my primary card and a 650 for physx.

Have you tested to make sure mirroring the monitors really has all that much impact? It's not like it renders the second screen.

Edit: I just ran through a Unigen Heaven test at 1600x1200 with just my main monitor and then mirrored and got 1077 on the single and 1076 on the mirrored run. That's slightly less than a 0.1% variation, and could be because some other process did something slightly different on the second run. Seems like the impact of mirroring is nothing to be concerned about.

I've never tested it since i dont have a second monitor yet, and it would make sense for it not to lag since im only displaying everything twice...but somepeople are saying it doesnt put a load on the card and some are saying it does. So im a bit confused at this point.

Don't know if you saw my edit before you posted... but I just tested it, it doesn't (At least in Unigen Heaven).
