i was painfully lamenting how seagate could release a hd with no esata adapter, then realized if i slimmed down the connector, i could use the spare sata data and power chord spots from my desktop psu and connection. except when i connected up, and powered back on the pc, the drive was recognised but needed to be formatted, but the available formating size was only +-358 mb, not 3tb. what gives? is there some special hard drive or intermediate connector or slave jumper that needs to be removed?
seagate, WTF, why u no make esata connector with external power support? seriously. thanks obama! :/

This looks like it might be the problem thanks, i was abke to go into disk managment and extend the volume to 1.99tb, with 700 someodd gb unallocated and unusable. Formated to ntfs, i can life with a 2tb drive for the mean time, really want an esata solution for this guy though.

Unfortunatly my mb, gigabyte ga-ep35-ds3l, does not have support for loading bios on 64bit windows 7, and i dont have a floppy drive. Also i dknt think there have been bios updates for a ling time for this mb so it may be fully up to date(rev6 bios) and no solutions. Any suggestions other than build a new desktop?

If your BIOS supports q-Flash, you can flash the BIOS from a USB thumb drive.

Download your latest BIOs update file from the Gigabyte website and place the file on a USB thumb drive.

At boot, right after the beep, press the DELETE key to enter your BIOS settings. If your motherboard supports Q-Flash, it will be one of the options listed along the bottom of your screen. Press the key that starts Q-Flash, and follow the onscreen prompts to flash your BIOS.

Be warned that flashing your BIOS does risk rendering your motherboard useless if something goes wrong. Do NOT unplug your computer while flashing is in progress.

Before you flash BIOS, Please read up on the process on Gigabyte's website. Also, there is a video here that shows the process on a similar motherboard https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFLRCwhjujM&feature=youtube_gdata_player

Best Luck to you!
