i cant decide if i should get the more expensive 680 or two 7950 for around the same price. which would get me the best results for gaming.

The answer is obvious, two 7950s are a FAR better deal than a single 680 at the SAME price.

I gotta love Nvidia's price gouging, making people buy AMD gpus. Which is nice, because AMD needs more customers. I initally wanted to buy a 670, but then i saw that the 670 is as much as a 7970 in my local area. So the decision was a no brainer.

thanks for the help sorry if it seemed like an obvious question i'm relatively new to hardware and was unsure how much advantages advanced physx would have and if two cards would even be that efficient so thanks for the help

Why not just go for a single 7970? Same price, probably the best bang for your buck. Won't have the raw performance of the 7950's but you'll avoid any complications with crossfire while being able to play every game at high or maxed out settings.

If you are really wowed and amazed by PhysX then it is understandable to be compelled by going with Nvidia.

But for plain practicality and bang for the money you are going to spend, two 7950s for the price of a single 680 is the best you can go. There is just no possible way to be wrong to go with two 7950s.

But ofcourse please make sure you have considered and thoroughly understood the implications and requirements of running dual GPUs.
