Would a new GTX650Ti be overkill for my dated system?

I just uncovered an old gaming PC from storage and got it running again, I am hoping to play games like Crysis 1,2,3 and the free Mechwarrior Online game but don't plan on getting into too many newer games out there. I tried running Mechwarrior Online on my current system and It failed miserably, even on the lowest settings.

I did some research on newer GPU's and have my eye on a Gigabyte GTX650Ti 2gb OC for $150

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125446

My hardware is as follows:
Q6600 2.4Ghz (B3 stepping, hopefully can overclock another 600-800mhz out of it?)

4gb Corsiar XMS DDR2 6400

Radeon X1950Pro (I suspect the weak link)

I run games at 1680x1050 resolution.

Given my older hardware, would the GTX650Ti 2gb be overkill? Would I be better off with a lesser model, perhaps with 1gb vram? Would I be better off sticking with the current system until I can afford a complete cpu/motherboard/memory/gpu upgrade?

Also, I don't have the slightest clue to what AMD/ATI cards have to offer in the $150 bracket. I just noticed the latest GPU comparason from Toms Hardware showed the 650Ti as the best value. Would there be a better card for my situation?

Thank you for the help.
