I have saved a great amount of important data on a USB flash drive. However, my brother deleted it since it is his USB flash drive and he merely wants to clean it up for data keeping. He doesn’t know that I have not transferred it to my own computer. It’s really my fault. Do you know how to recover these deleted important files back from this USB flash drive?

1. If you want to completely restore your important files back, you should stop writing anything else on this USB drive, for any new data would actually erase your original data permanently.
2. Plunge this USB flash drive to your computer and choose a third-party data recovery tool to retrieve your deleted files.
There are plenty of data recovery tools out there. If you want to have much more security of data recovery, you could buy a paid data recovery tool. If you have no extra money for this, don’t worry, you also could download some data recovery freeware online:
http://www.piriform.com/recuva
http://blog4mark.blogspot.com/2012/12/deleted-files-rec...
3. Follow the instructions to retrieve your deleted files back.
4. Back up all your recovered data on a different drive in case of data loss.
Edit: You are supposed to be more careful about your important data and remember to back it up all the time.
Good luck!

Fortunately, my bother has not written his data on this USB flash drive.
And after reading your answer, I have followed your steps and download these two mentioned data recovery freeware. Both of them work well. The first one finishes the scanning process in seconds and finally restores the most part of my data. As to the second one, even though it takes nearly twenty minutes to scan the drive, it finally retrieves all my deleted files back. It is really free and efficient.
Thank you very much!!!!!

Hi, make sure to stop using the USB, as the old ones will get rewritten, as Tommy mentioned, it ups the chance that you will recover data off it. I would recommend Reincubate Recover Files, has a free version that might work nicely for you. Good luck!

Does your Mac have USB3 now?
What make or brand is it?

Often the best way to use one of these is to fully reformat the drive first.

Step #2 have a recovery drive as well so you leave it alone and have another place (ideally not your internal system drive) to use.

Step #3: invest in Data Recovery. The demo is free.
Does it show your files? good. The program is $89.

Depends on the state and condition of the old disk drive and its directory what you do or not.

$150 is about the cost to " do a look see " and if they were going to recover files, I suspect that they already own DR and whether they then charge you extra for a new hard drive with your files.

Disk Warrior 4.x can be useful though not essential. There are times it doesn't work but TechTool 7 will, anotehr program $99 but if you were a dentist or mechanic woudl have on hand too.

for kits and enclosures I would checked out www.macsales.com/firewire to see what they have, often with Drive Genius OEM copy, a spare external drive, etc. Whether you buy there or not or Amazon or local is up to you. I tend to avoid local unless it is a rush job.
