Hi guys, many thanks for taking the time to view.

I have a Dell PowerEdge T320 server. It has the following memory:

4GB UDIMM, 1333 MHz, Low Volt, Dual Rank, x8 1

I recently purchased another 4GB of memory via Crucial, the details of this memory is below:

DDR3 PC3-12800 • CL=11 • Dual Ranked • x8 based • Registered • ECC • DDR3-1600 • 1.35V • 512Meg x 72 • Low Profile • Part #: CT3359449

Could anyone tell me why the computer is not booting up? When I turn it on, fans go on etc however the health and memory light up amber?

Also, in the Lifecycle Controller, it is saying 'Memory is detec, but is not configurable'.

I would appreciate if you could take the time to help me out.

Many thanks

Jack

Hi Jack

I think most likely the issue lies with the 2 different types of memory being used. Your original Dell memory is 4GB UDIMM, 1333 MHz, Low Volt, Dual Rank, x8 1
Your Crucial memory is DDR3 PC3-12800 • CL=11 • Dual Ranked • x8 based • Registered • ECC • DDR3-1600 • 1.35V • 512Meg x 72 • Low Profile • Part #: CT3359449
Note, Dell memory = UDIMM, Crucial memory = RDIMM

You will have to get your Crucial memory changed to UDIMM if you want to use it together with the Dell memory. You can't mix both UDIMM and RDIMM memory in the server.

For reference, please refer to the user manual on page 73:-...

Hello Mike, thank you very much for taking the time to reply.

I believe that the original memory in the server is EEC. It has 9 chips as does the one that Crucial provided.

I have tried swapping both of them so that only one is installed at one time, and they are both working perfectly whenever this is the case. In fact, I'm writing this from the server which has the new Crucial memory installed.

Many thanks for your reply and hopefully you can provide some more possible alternatives!

Thanks

Jack
