Ok so the router I have now is garbage. It won't be able to support gaming in any sort of way. I'm trying to get suggestions for a router that is optimal for gaming.
Thanks paul

Most decent routers will do fine. To me, a gaming router is like a gaming network card. Lots of hype and talking up of special gaming features that don't translate to any real world performance gains, is basically the same hardware with some marketing hype on it, the word gaming added to it and 300% the price.

Any examples of a decent router? I just have a pretty basic router and it's far away. It's either a wireless card or buy a router that can handle what I'm trying to throw at it

Any 75$+ router will do an awesome job, i can suggest the ASUS RT-N65U for 100$ in rebate. It's powerfull, my usb wireless is in basement when the router is at second floor at the oposite side of my house and i get 100% signal when my old D-link DIR-655 (named Gaming router) was getting about 45-50% signal and was downgrading the speed as the connection was bad...

Sometimes the USB card is the trouble (or built-in wireless), you can try another unit to see if that correct the issue too...

PS: Many devices connected also give poor performance on wireless...

My issue is the router it's a tad far away and I'm gonna get a new router and place it right next to the pc. I'm trying to avoid the wireless route and have a direct connect

I'm gaming on wireless and i get excellent ping, no problem with wireless for me... i've never tried POE before, maybe that's faster but wireless work fine for most people i know (but they're not using cheap 30-40$ router)

If you're connecting directly, every router will do fine, a wired router is really simple and they don't need optimisation like wireless, you're most likely to not even see the difference from a 20$ router comparing it to a 200$ router (in wired mode) but on wireless that'll be night and day...

Yeah, it'll work fine but from my old one, i would advise you that this one is really tough to setup and get it to work without disconnecting (the time isn't setting properly and router simply hang and doesn't respond anymore, need a reboot every day or about until the 2013 Firmware update, not using it anymore so i can't say if the latest firmware correct the issue...)

So essantily that router is garbage until they release a firmware update? Then what else is recomended that is easy to set up and doesn't drop the wired connection

I had major issues with wireless where I live maybe due to the fact I live in condo/apartment heavy area. So my solution was to get a POE adatpor (pair) that was on sale. Then I bought a cheap 100 mb switch for like $15, then I connected one next to the router the other behind my entertanment system in my living room. That allowed me to hook up my TV, Blu ray, Reciever, and game console swith out issue.
