Hi all

I have a HP Pavilion dv5 - 1110em and would like to upgrade the CPU to cope with the heavy load of music programs. (Can't afford a mac right now)

Currently have a AMD Turion(tm)x2 dual core Mobile RM-72 2.1 GHZ

any suggestions on what processor will work well for me and be compatible??

Short answer, get a new system. It isn't worth the cost to upgrade even if it is possible to. The fastest in the series of CPU you have is 2.3ghz. Not exactly much of a bump. You don't need a Mac either. Even a cheap i3 laptop would be much faster than what you have now.

Considering that this is a laptop, you're almost certainly out of luck. Very few laptops have CPUs that can be changed out.

Or you could buy an equally spec'd if not better when compared to the mac for half the price. Apple prays on people that have it stuck in their head that macs are somehow better. Have you ever seen a benchmark showing an equally configured mac being better than a PC, no because they are not. Go spend 700-800 on a PC that's all the computer the mac is for half the price. The you can still take your lady somewhere nice and not end up couch bound for a few weeks.
