Hi All,
I'm an animator and i need help picking parts for building a new computer. (this will be my first time building one so be kind if i sound like i dunno what I'm talking about.) :)
I need a list of parts that go together and are within the $1,000 to $1,500 range.
The softwares I use are maya, 3ds max, premiere, after effects, photoshop.

Somethings on my wish list are:

intel i7 quad processor http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116501

a case with at least 4 usb ports in the front (preferably with a few USB 3.0 like this) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129179

a cooling system in case I must overclock (but probably will not have to)

a bluray player/burner

an SSD ( at least one )

wifi installed/enabled

a monitor (widescreen, maybe 25 inches)

there is so much to choose from, I'm kinda lost. Please help me if you can.
thanks, kelly

Just some general advice if it helps:

For 2d and 3d work the priorities are CPU speed and RAM, so go for 16 or 32GB. The CPU is a good choice, and you can overclock easily and safely with an air cooler such as the Evo 212 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103099). Also consider dual widescreen monitors, as a secondary monitor is very handy for having reference images up for example. Even a $100 18" LCD as a secondary screen will help.

A graphics card will help with some of those programs, but shouldn't be a priority.

Also add say a 2TB HDD for general storage of textures and resources etc, and run the software off the SSD.

I would say for a graphics choice go for a low end firepro from AMD or a low end quadro from Nvidia. These cards are REALLY expensive, so if you can afford higher than, say, 500 dollars look some up for yourself. However, CPU and RAM really matter slightly more at this point.

I would say select the monitor you want to use first and remove that amount from your budget and go from there. Going from a 22 to 25/27 inch montior @1080p only cost a little bit over all but going from a 1080@ to even a 19x12 or higher can just the monitor price by several Hundred dollars. Also going with Dual's I think would be a good way to go since I'm assuming that those applications can use a 2nd monitor as a view point etc.

thank you for your feedback! i've used dual monitors for years and yesterday one of them died so i just needed to replace one. Lets forget about the monitor for right now. I would rather like to get a computer built first.

I took a stab at this and I took into consideration some of the things that were mentioned, but frankly it all sounds like a foreign language to me. lol ....so here is a list of... well i don't know what really... but could someone tell me if it all works together:

case http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129179

HDD http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148834

power supply http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182084

Ram http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233299

motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128545

CPU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116501

video card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814133275

cooling system http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103099

bluray burner http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827136252

SSD http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147192

this totals: $1,346.90 ( although my co workers say they have built their machines under $1,200. )

again i took a stab at this and don't know much about anything i've picked. Apologizes on my lack of knowledge.

Wowzahs k1114! Thank you for this thorough list!!! Really helpful !

A number of premiere's features are cuda only as well as after effect's 3d gpu acceleration and max's iray so suggest nvidia. Adobe will make opencl available for those features later but for now they are not. A decent card is recommended but if it really is just for animating, you'd be working with lower poly working models. I'd have liked more details to help more but I will do with whatever you wish to share.

Buy a firepro w7000. You can get them half price if it is your first such purchase, and they easily beat equivalently priced quadro cards. However, they do NOT support cuda, which is important in some software.
