AMD FX-8350 Vishera V.S. Phenom 980 black edition

Hello everyone,
I currently have
CPU: AMD Phenom 980 Black edition
Motherboard: Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 (high end AMD board)
Videocard: GTX 660
I play tons of games both online and offline. I currently have a 3 monitor setup but only play games on 1 monitor because they are all different sizes. My main monitor is 1080p resolution. I also like to have multiple games up at once so i can jump between them without having to reopen them.

Question 1: Would I see a performance increase from the 980 to the FX-8350?

Question 2: Also i plan to sli with 2 GTX 660's in the future would my current processor bottleneck my system? (If it does should I upgrade to the FX-8350 then?)

If your 980 is overclocked pretty well...then you're not really in that bad a situation. If you don't overclock, you would see a slight performance bump going to the FX 8350. I would say that the FX8350 would push a SLI setup better...but your 980 will not be a slouch at it. I don't think you would bottleneck a GTX 660 SLI with your 980. If you went much more than that you probably would. Say GTX 670 SLI...for example.

For you, moving to the FX8350 is really more about gaining a little more muscle more than it is a large increase in performance. Will you see advantages in highly threaded apps and games? Yes. In older games where they run fewer threads at once? Not really as much...performance there will be similar. However...

However, Crysis 3 and that bunch of games that eat cores like nothing will be better on the FX8350.

Up to you really, the FX8350 is a slight upgrade...will it push a higher end SLI better? Yes...will it multitask better? Yes.

Since you run multiple games at once, I would say the FX8350 would be a better value for you than it would be for others that don't run such a high end setup.

You would not see a performance increase in games. You might see an increase with a 3550k in some very CPU heavy games like Starcraft 2, but other than that, you probably wouldn't notice any difference. Maybe if you had something insane as in 2 GTX 680's or 7970's, then you'd benefit from an upgrade. 2 GTX 660's shouldn't be enough to bottleneck your CPU.

I have the same board with a phenom 970be overclocked to 4.0ghz @ 1.45 volts. it will run all day at that speed with an aftermarket cooler. any of the phenom blacks; 965, 970, 975, and 980 will hit 4ghz without a problem. i was running 2 evga gtx 560ti 448 classified ultras in sli without any problems. Since you already have the processor, i say use it. As far as the multi-monitor setup, i say buy a video card with at least 3gigs of memory. there is a 660 with 3 gigs.
my 970 will go as high as 4.3ghz but for normal use dont go over 4ghz. you dont want to burn it out. You probably would see a performance gain in sli with the FX8350 but its your money. the only way to find out is to try it. good luck.
