in the subject title is the BSOD "STOP" error i get when i try and boot up my 2001 SOYO desktop(it has windows ME, i know its old and outdated but old stuff is fun sometimes). i think i know the reason why but i just want to ake sure just incase.

my old compaq presario 5020 just died and i didn't know if it was the motherboard, power supply or a short. so i tried another power supply, nothing happened. so then i decided to try it in my SOYO and i worked fine. so its obvious its the board. so i saved the memory, hard drive, cd-rom, floppy and tape drive. and threw out the mobo. i then added all the hardware to the soyo and tried it with the windows vista operating system and the hardware(not including Hard drive)works fine. so then i connected the hard drive to the IDE cable and went into the BIOS and chose to boot from that. i saw the splash screen and then it said that it wasn't shut down properly and to choose from a list of boot options, i chose LAST KNOWN GOOD CONFIGURATION, then i got the BSOD. i thought the computer didn't pick up all the boot files so i did the same process again, but the same thing happened. then i tried SAFE MODE but the same thing happened again. i then decided to restart the computer back to Vista and do a virus scan on that hard drive and there was over 80 worms, backdoors, viruses, dialers, and root kits. i removed all of them and did a disk repairand retried booting. but still getting the same STOP error. PLEASE HELP. IF YOU NEED MORE INFO LET ME KNO. THANKS IN ADVANCE.

Just some basic info.. most windows past 98 have a copy protection that will stop them from booting on a computer that has too many hardware changes at once... and since the mobo contains almost half of the items that show in the hardware manager its almost a given that a new Mobo will need a clean install of windows....
